Dates for 2008 Trip To South Africa

I thought it would be good to get the dates for the upcoming trip to South Africa out in the open. Bill Hebner earlier sent me an email with these dates:

Spring break in the UK is March 20th to March 31, 2008. House building would be March 24 to 27th, 2008.

I am working with Bill on getting the final dates for departure and return dates for this trip.

A reminder, at this time: the only group going on this trip is the team from Wales. They are our partners in this grand event and will be pioneering the way for future Amor trips to Africa.

Consulting With Ohio Church That Just Built In South Africa

Last month, July 2007, some 500 faithful left their home church, Crossroads Community Church of Cincinnati, Ohio, and flew to Johannesburg, South Africa to build some homes for the needy for the second year in a row. I discovered this group while reading one of the newspapers I read daily from South Africa. Here was this picture of a team of Americans building a home with typical wood studs. At first glance I had to double check which newspaper I was reading. I thought for sure I was reading about an Amor group building a home in Mexico. Check for yourself below:

The caption below the picture read, "Cincinatti Kids. The Crossroads Community Church from the Ohio riverside city is working with their sister church, Charity and Faith Mission in Mamelodi East, to empower the community. They are building eight houses which will all be completed by the next week. Getting stuck in are, from left, Americans Doug Striker, Brennan Hill, Jamie Kallmeyer and Micheal Keller. Steve Horrex has already made a couple calls to the leaders of this trip and is consulting with them about their experiences. I thought it would be interesting to link their trip to my blog. Below are several links about their recent trip this past July.

I got the call today! CEO Steve Cosgrove, of Cosgrove Partners, called today to say he would definitely be joining us on the November Advance Team to South Africa. Steve will be a tremendous addition to the team with far reaching organizational and leadership skills to help us navigate the international challenges this endeavor faces.

Steve recently mentioned to me that he has always had a passion for the peoples of Africa and he made some major changes to his business schedule to be a part of this trip.

Take A Free Tour Of Cape Town, South Africa

I found a nifty website that has audio tours of Cape Town in South Africa. The introduction is free and can downloaded clicking the Tourcaster logo below:

The intro tour is about a 13 meg. download and is free. The other Cape Town tours require a membership and cost a little over 5 dollars for a three or four hour tour. I hope they add a Johannesburg or Pretoria tour someday.
